Description

    The Briel Chamonix Espresso Maker not only pulls a fantastic shot of espresso, it looks great on the countertop, too. The sleek, stainless steel machine uses 15 bars of pump pressure—high above the 9 bars required for an authentic cup of espresso. The Auto Espresso Flow microchip lets you pre-select how much espresso to make, and the patented Crema Master ensures that each cup is topped with delicious crema foam. A turbo jet frother generates plenty of steamed milk for lattes and cappuccinos. Two thermostats regulate the coffee and steam cycles, with a third standing by as a safety backup. Includes a stainless steel boiler, top-filling water reservoir, AquaStop no-drip system, overflow tray and measuring spoon. Use either loose coffee grounds or pre-packaged E.S.E. espresso pods (sold separately). Imported. 11-3/4Hx8-3/4Wx8L".

Excellent little machine! December 2, 2005 Reviewer:  coffee crazy (Arlington, VA)  See all my reviews >

I have had the Chamonix for almost two years and it just rocks! It's easy to use, small, pretty quiet during operation and well worth every penny. Briel is an excellent manufacturer of espresso machines. I've moved with this little guy twice and no issues at all. Just like anything, you do have to clean and maintain it. If you like barista quality lattes at home, this baby will more than produce for you.

So-so Espresso Machine December 21, 2005 Reviewer:  Coffee Fan (Annandale, VA)  See all my reviews >

I was lured by this machines cool looks and good price. Ended up returning it after a couple weeks and went with a Gaggia Evolution.

Pros
====
The Chamonix is small enough to fit on your counter under wall cabinets, has all the parts to get you started making espresso, can make hot water (for hot chocolate, tea, etc...).

Cons
====
The "patented chrema master" filter means finely ground espresso easily clogs the filter (as I experienced and is explained in the directions). If you don't mind true fine ground espresso then probably not a big deal. Also, the build quality is so-so.

This is probably an ok entry level machine, but if you want to "grow" in your abilities to make different espresso's then you may want to think of stepping up.
